Colistinesulfaat (Polymyxin E. sulfaat), een polypeptide-antibioticum, is een antibioticum met een smal spectrum dat vooral efficiënt is tegen gramnegatieve bacteriën.

Werkingsmechanisme: Colistinesulfaat bindt zich aan lipiden op het celcytoplasmamembraan van Gram-negatieve bacteriën en verstoort de integriteit van de celwand.

Gebruik: Het wordt vaak gebruikt tegen Enterobacteriaceae en Aeromonas, en niet-fermentatieve gramnegatieve bacteriën, evenals tegen carbapenem-resistente Acinetobacter-stammen.

Mode of Action: Colistine Sulfate binds to lipids on the cell cytoplasmic membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and disrupts the cell wall integrity.

Use: It is commonly used against Enterobacteriaceae and Aeromonas, and none-fermentative gram-negative bacteria as well as for carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter strains.
